The following links have been reviewed by the webmaster. They will help your development as a practitioner of movement. They will also help your running. Parents for Bare feet Children. Nowadays, when I see a child who runs or walks ungainly I think, "what clumsy shoes", because nine times out of ten, it is the shoes that are at fault. (see also their Barefoot Links section). Descriptive Anatomical Terms. This page clearly explains the words that physios use for the movments of body parts. Warning! - Please use caution about the advice that the rest of this website offers. See comments under next recommendation. Orthotic Additions and Modifications. This webpage presents an island of common sense in the lunatic world of orthotics. In most instances, orthotics are like the doctor's pills - indiscriminately prescribed in response to the public's desire for a "quick fix", and potentially full of nasty side effects. Occasionally podiatrists do take the time to accurately diagnose and assess foot problems, and this webpage depicts some of their likely diagnoses. For example, I feel reassured by the contraindication comment under the subheading "Rearfoot Extrinsic Posts". (Rear foot posts lift the medial or inside edge of the heel). This webmaster received (supposedly high-tech) advice from a local source that he should have rearfoot extrinsic heel posts. He didn't take it. Alternative advice was sought, and an early onset knee arthritis reversed. The rearfoot extrinsic heelposts would have accentuated the problem. This is not an isolated instance, and is the reason why I do not trust the majority of "expert" orthotic advice. |
